The Activities of Jubilee House

The structure

Casa Giubileo is a farmhouse located on the hillside of Montemaggio in the Municipality of Monteriggioni. The structure is managed by the Historical Institute of the Sienese Resistance, the Anpi and the Uisp Provincial Committee of Siena.

it is an area with many testimonies of the past with pious castles, medieval villages, villas and farms united by the ancient route of the Via Francigena. From Casa Jubileo start some itineraries marked by signs that lead along ancient paths and historical sites that trace back from medieval times to the history of the twentieth century. Some trails are equipped with signs informing about the most important events that took place on this hill during the liberation struggle between 1943 and 1944.

The forest of Montemaggio is made up of a rich vegetation of oaks, holm oaks, oaks, chestnuts, in the highest area, and hosts some fascinating caves of karst origin. Throughout the territory, the presence of man and the half-way culture has left traces in the old coal mines, in the dry walls, in the glades once cultivated.

The proposal

In this context, the structure of the Casa Jubileo is equipped with spaces able to welcome groups, associations, schools that organize stays of one or more days even with children with whom to begin direct experiential approaches with the environment around them.

In fact, the area lends itself to excursions on foot, by mountain bike, on horseback, with the possibility of historical-naturalistic guides for a complete knowledge of the territory.

The didactic laboratory of the Jubilee House is linked to the most important massacre of partisans (28 March 1944) that took place in Tuscany by the fascist militia. The Jubilee House is a Monument and a Shrine but also a place for the elaboration and transmission of historical memory, a reference point for the teaching of history.

The use of the laboratory

The activities are:

  • Organization of thematic courses of one or more days (Fascism and Anti-Fascism in Siena, Resistance in the Province of Siena, Italian Constitution, Nazi-Fascist massacres) for first and second grade secondary school classes.
  • Extended stay in which the history of the territory can be combined with activities related to the history of the territory.
  • One-day or one-morning visits to learn about the events leading up to the Partisan massacre.
The use of the facility for educational purposes is made by reservation at ISRSEC, which provides the support of a consultant.
